Redhurst Quarry, part of the Ibstock Brick Company and a key supplier of clay, upgraded its on-site refuelling facilities with a Merridale fuel management and tank system in May 2023. The installation supports a fleet of 10 heavy-duty plant vehicles operating in demanding quarry conditions.

Darren Glasse, Quarries Support Manager for Ibstock at Redhurst, said:

Before Merridale we had a 40-year-old storage tank fitted with a basic fuel dispenser that anyone could access. It just had a clock-style feature that you had to reset after each use to monitor everything. We had no reporting at all, so keeping on top of stock and spending was a struggle, never mind checking environmental impact data.

The upgrade included a 20,000-litre fuel tank fitted with a Merridale MX-I diesel fuel pump with an integrated fuel management system, alongside a Merridale MX-T tank management system. This combined solution provides secure fuel access, accurate monitoring, and full visibility of fuel usage across the site.

Designed for rugged environments, the Merridale system delivers high-accuracy fuel metering and is built to withstand heavy daily use in harsh conditions, making it ideal for quarry and plant operations.

When asked how the system had performed, Darren added:

Since installation, we really have tested it out! It’s standing up to some very heavy usage and we’re having no issues with it at all. Being a working quarry, you can imagine the type of conditions and treatment the kit is getting, so it is vital that we have a robust system in place.

The installation also enhances safety and security, with features including a protective roller cabinet door and integrated tank monitoring. The MX-T tank management system provides accurate fuel level data, overfill protection, and seamless integration with the fuel management system for improved control and reporting.

By connecting to Merridale’s FuelWorks web-based platform, the quarry team can access real-time data, including fuel stock levels, usage reports, delivery detection, and low-level alerts — all from any web-enabled device.

Darren also commented on the software:

The Merridale software is very simple to use. I was given the basic training when we first signed up and once setup, I quickly picked up the rest on my own. Navigating your way around the different reports is pretty easy and everything I need is there.
